Water Polo

The St Austell Water Polo Team is currently going through a resurgence, with the number of participants steadily increasing.  The game can be traced back in St Austell to just after the 2nd world war, with games regularly being played in Charlestown harbour.  Now-a-days we prefer to play in the warmth of Polkyth swimming pool.

Basic Rules

Water Polo is a team sport played in the water with football like goals at each end of the pool and a football size rubber ball.  The ball can only be caught and held with one hand at a time, and can not be taken under the water.

The senior team have recently returned from a trip to the Netherlands where they played 5 matches over a 3 day period, resulting in a 3rd place in division.  The winter “Go For It” league is now starting giving us plenty of match practice (see the events page for dates and venues).

The junior team have just partaken in the South West Regional Mini-Polo Tournament against 8 other teams including Exeter, Barnstable and Paignton.  The entire team did themselves proud with some sterling performances against more experienced teams.
